What it is

Found in CSF of sleeping rabbits in the 1970s; named for its EEG delta-wave-promoting effect. Used investigationally for sleep, withdrawal syndromes and stress.

Mechanism of action

Modulates delta-wave generation, hypothalamic CRH and stress responses. Exact receptor remains uncharacterized.
